Kipti vs. ChatGPT: 2026 comparison

Summary

ChatGPT is suited to open-ended tasks such as general web research or explanations that do not require specialized school or student-related information sources. For each use, schools should determine whether ChatGPT is approved for the relevant data and purpose. Kipti is designed specifically for day-to-day school work and provides a structured workspace for documentation, task management, and collaboration. Teams can record real observations, use them as the basis for school-related summaries, organize tasks, and work with information under controlled access in a multidisciplinary team.

Both bring AI into day-to-day school work, but they address different needs. ChatGPT is a general-purpose assistant for open-ended tasks. Kipti specializes in the recurring path from an observation to a school document, with role-based access, mandatory professional review, and contractually defined processing locations for data of documented individuals.

Kipti and ChatGPT by workflow

This table summarizes the priorities described publicly and does not claim to be complete. Statements about ChatGPT come from the provider sources linked below, retrieved on September 28, 2026. Check current details and terms with the relevant provider before making a decision.

This comparison covers the ChatGPT consumer plans Free, Go, and Plus because they are available without an organization contract and may therefore appear in day-to-day school use. We do not have reliable figures for the distribution of individual plans in schools. Different terms apply to ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, and Edu; where that changes the comparison, the relevant row says so.

Note on the US CLOUD Act: providers covered by US law can in principle face orders from US authorities to disclose data. The CLOUD Act extends existing preservation and disclosure obligations under US law to data stored outside the United States. Whether a particular provider, of any kind, is covered by 18 U.S.C. section 2713 is a case-specific legal question. In their joint response to the LIBE Committee dated July 10, 2019, the EDPB and EDPS describe parts of the scope as unresolved. They also state that the law does not authorize indiscriminate mass collection, but governs targeted orders with procedural safeguards. We make no statement about any provider. Under Article 48 GDPR, decisions by third-country authorities are not automatically recognized or enforced in the EU.

Kipti prices from the pricing page: Basic €12.99 per person each month or €129.90 per person each year. Team €9.99 per person each month or €99.90 per person each year from 5 seats. View all plans

The Kipti prices shown include VAT. We deliberately do not state ChatGPT amounts: prices and tax information vary by product tier and country and should be checked on the provider's pricing page.

Details

The most important workflow differences

A feature list alone does not explain how each product fits day-to-day school work. These areas usually determine the fit.

01

Specialized for the school documentation process

Kipti starts with unstructured observations and develops them over time into reviewable drafts for learning progress reports, support plans, or meetings. Its contract describes these data types and limits the intended purpose to structuring, summarizing, and drafting documents. ChatGPT produces text and analyses for a wide range of tasks; a school-specific case-file and permissions process is not described in the provider's documentation. Organizations that need such a process should ask the provider how it can be implemented before using the service.

02

Terms depend on the product tier

From a privacy perspective, “ChatGPT” is not one uniform offering. OpenAI says content from services for individuals may be used for model improvement unless the user opts out; Temporary Chats are not used for training while they remain temporary. Business, Enterprise, Edu, and the API do not use inputs or outputs for training by default. A GDPR data processing agreement applies to Business, Enterprise, and the API, while OpenAI's Student Data Privacy Agreement applies to ChatGPT Edu. A school that intends to process student data must therefore first assess the plan, contract, and configuration.

03

Processing location and access by third-country authorities

The US CLOUD Act was enacted on March 23, 2018, as Division V of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2018, and added 18 U.S.C. section 2713. It does not create a separate power of access; it extends existing preservation and disclosure obligations under US law to data “within such provider's possession, custody, or control, regardless of whether such communication, record, or other information is located within or outside of the United States.” In their joint response to the LIBE Committee dated July 10, 2019, the EDPB and EDPS explain that the CLOUD Act does not authorize systematic or indiscriminate mass collection, but governs targeted orders subject to procedural safeguards. They also say that parts of its scope remain unresolved, including its application to EU entities in US corporate groups. Whether a particular provider is covered is therefore a case-specific legal question; we make no statement about any provider. EDPB Guidelines 02/2024 on Article 48 GDPR, version 2.1 adopted June 4, 2025, state that decisions by third-country authorities are not automatically recognized or enforced in the EU, while leaving room for other legal bases in individual cases. Kipti's DPA section 14(4) states that no technical means exist for access from outside the EU to personal data of documented individuals. Other service providers and permitted transfer mechanisms apply to other customer and user data.

04

Collaboration in multidisciplinary teams

Kipti combines notes, profiles, tasks, and document drafts into a shared working record and uses roles, least privilege, and row-level security to control visibility. Free, Go, and Plus are personal ChatGPT accounts; organization or role management for those plans is not described in the provider's documentation. Business, Enterprise, and Edu add workspace, role, and administrative controls. Whether those controls can implement a school-specific responsibility and case-file model is not described in the provider's documentation.

Decision guide

When each offering is the better fit

Start with the process that actually recurs in daily work. Additional features become meaningful criteria only after that.

When ChatGPT is the better fit

ChatGPT can support open-ended tasks such as general research, drafting and explaining, brainstorming, creating images, or preparing materials. Its AI models cover a broad range of tasks, including complex work. When personal student data is involved, schools should assess the ChatGPT plan, contractual terms, configuration, and approval by the school or school authority.

  • you need a flexible assistant for changing, open-ended tasks
  • you want to start immediately without an implementation project
  • the task does not involve personal student data

When Kipti is the better fit

Kipti is a specialized application designed for the needs of education. It helps schools capture observations quickly, keep them available over time, and use them for learning progress reports, support plans, or meeting preparation. The AI chat also supports drafting and revising text, school development work, and focused brainstorming in a school context. Task management covers personal work and team planning. Multiple professional roles can work from the same information under controlled access, while processing locations are contractually defined.

  • your own observations should form the basis of several documents
  • personal and team tasks should be organized together
  • multiple professional roles collaborate under controlled access
  • processing locations and deletion periods need contractual definition
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Answers that help place Kipti and ChatGPT in context.

For recurring student documentation, yes; for general AI tasks, not completely. ChatGPT is broader for open-ended tasks. Kipti focuses on observations, student-related context, document drafts, and controlled team collaboration.

There is no universal answer. The school must assess the specific offering, contract, data controls, storage and processing options, data category, legal basis, purpose, and local approval. Consumer, Business, Enterprise, Edu, and API offerings have different terms. Provider information reviewed September 28, 2026.

Not as a general rule. Both exclude training by default and provide additional controls. A GDPR data processing agreement applies to ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, and the API, while OpenAI's Student Data Privacy Agreement, an instrument oriented toward US law, applies to ChatGPT Edu. OpenAI's DPA also does not list sensitive data as an ordinarily intended transfer. Data type, purpose, legal basis, configuration, transfers, and approvals require separate assessment. Based on OpenAI's Enterprise Privacy and DPA documentation, reviewed September 28, 2026.

The CLOUD Act of 2018 extends certain preservation and disclosure obligations under US law to data within a covered provider's control, whether stored in or outside the United States. In their joint response dated July 10, 2019, the EDPB and EDPS emphasize that it does not authorize indiscriminate mass collection, but governs targeted orders subject to procedural safeguards, and that parts of its scope remain unresolved. Whether a particular provider is covered is case-specific; we make no statement about any provider. Kipti's DPA states that no technical means exist for access from outside the EU to personal data of documented individuals.

The comparison does not go that far. ChatGPT remains broader for open-ended assistance. Kipti does not generally replace it; Kipti specializes the process for student-related documentation and multidisciplinary collaboration.

It depends on the provider and product tier. Kipti contractually excludes using customer data to train or improve AI models. OpenAI says content from services for individuals may be used for model improvement unless the user opts out; according to OpenAI, inputs and outputs from ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, Edu, and the API are not used for training by default.
